In a nutshell, all doctoral and senior researchers involved in GEM-STONES will seek to find an answer to the question: Does the growing complexity of the global system strenghthen or weaken the EU's capacity to interact with the world.
Anchoring its ambitious research agenda, GEM-STONES will also setup a transnational doctoral school offering: (1) joint methods' training; (2) summer schools; (3) database compilation exercises; (4) joint scientific publications with Routledge; and (5) a dedicated internship programme.
Finally GEM-STONES will also actively contribute to the internationalisation of research and higher education through the institutionalisation of joint doctorates. Concretely, each of the 15 hired Early Stage Researchers will be jointly supervised by a set of academics from 2 universities leading - upon completion - to the award of a double doctoral degree.
Overall, GEM-STONES will provide its research community with an environment that is:
- International: 15 partner organisations from 8 countries involved in research and training spanning 3 continents (Europe, North America and Asia);
- Intersectoral: Internships and joint activities involving Early Stage Researchers, Academics, Civil Society Representatives as well as European and non-European decision makers;
- Interdisciplinary: the 15 hired Early Stage Researchers cover a host a fields ranging from legal scholarship, political science, political theory, political economy, international relations, European studies and other social sciences.
